In this course Lori Bolander and Hilary Vrem provide a comprehensive overview of some of the difficult issues that practitioners face during the probate and estate planning process. The main topics addressed include types & character of property, transfers upon death, probate, planning estates & avoiding probate, the estate planning meeting, post meeting steps and the execution meeting. Further topics discussed include personal & real property, community & separate property, quasi-community property, joint tenancy, Totten Trust accounts, advantages and disadvantages of wills, advantages and disadvantages of trusts, valuing & liquidating assets, determining heirs and/or beneficiaries, executor/administrator fees, attorney’s fees, living trusts, identifying the client, limited attorney-client privilege waiver & ethical considerations, drafting documents and discussing decisions with the client.
Lori Bolander is the owner and principal attorney of Bolander Law Group. Lori was nominated for the San Diego Daily Transcript’s Young Attorney award in 2009 and 2010; in 2012 she received her first nomination and award as a Top Attorney. In 2012, Lori was elected co-chair of the Trusts and Estates Section of the San Diego County Bar Association. Hilary is a graduate of Cornell University and California Western School of Law. She has been practicing law in San Diego since 2005, joining the Bolander Law Group in 2010. Her practice focuses primarily on trust litigation, employment matters, adoptions, and estate planning.
